Free Doorstep Consultations and Medicines for Underserved Himalayan Communities

The Uttarayana Foundation’s Health on Wheels programme, in association with National Heart Institute, New Delhi, provides mobile healthcare to approximately 4,000 households across more than 30 villages in the Hawalbagh, Bhaisiyachhana and Takula blocks of Almora district.

Launched in 2018 by Shri Ajay Tamta, then Union Minister of State for Textiles, the programme helps rural families overcome difficult terrain, travel costs and limited access to healthcare.

Healthcare Services at the Doorstep

Staffed by a doctor, nurse and paramedical team, the mobile healthcare ambulance provides:

  • Free medical consultations and prescribed medicines.
  • Patient assessment, nursing support and preventive health guidance.
  • Referrals for investigations, hospital admission and further treatment.
  • Support for elderly patients, people with limited mobility and families facing financial hardship.

Patients requiring secondary-level treatment are referred to Uttarayana Hospital, with admission when clinically indicated. Those needing advanced cardiac care can be guided towards specialist services through National Heart Institute.

Support Through CSR Partnerships

CSR contributions can help sustain and expand this rural healthcare programme by supporting ambulance operations, healthcare personnel, medicines, portable diagnostic equipment and patient referral assistance.
