NT-proBNP

NT-proBNP (N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide) is a blood test used to assess heart function and help detect or evaluate heart failure.
When the heart is under increased pressure or strain, it can release more natriuretic peptides, causing NT-proBNP levels to rise. The test may be ordered when someone has symptoms such as:
shortness of breath, swelling of the legs or feet, unexplained fatigue, rapid weight gain from fluid retention and difficulty breathing when lying down.
