Dr. (Prof.) G. N. Lone is a highly experienced Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at National Heart Institute, New Delhi, with over 29 years of experience in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. He has performed more than 14,000 Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic Procedures, with expertise in Complex Adult Cardiac surgery, including Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), Complex Valvular Surgery, Aortic Aneurysm surgery, and Congenital heart surgery.

Before joining National Heart Institute, Dr. Lone served for 27 years at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar, where he held various academic positions and retired as Professor and Head, Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (CVTS). During his tenure at SKIMS, he played a pivotal role in developing a State-of-the-Art Cardiothoracic Centre equipped with advanced technologies and facilities, including Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP), ECMO, Coronary Flow Meters, Cell Savers, Radiofrequency Ablation Systems, Ventilators, Cardiac Monitors, Infusion Pumps, Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), and Advanced Heart-Lung Machines. Under his leadership, the department established and expanded services for routine CABG, Complex Congenital Cardiac surgery, Complex Valvular procedures, and Aortic Aneurysm Surgery. In addition, Dr. Lone has pioneered several advanced and innovative procedures at SKIMS, including Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS), Endovascular Aortic Surgery, Aortic Root and Aortic Arch Surgery, Anti-arrhythmic Surgery, and NIRS-based Carotid Surgery. He performed more than 25 innovative Cardiothoracic and Vascular procedures for the first time at SKIMS, significantly contributing to the advancement and recognition of the department at the national level.

Dr. Lone completed his MBBS from Government Medical College, Srinagar, followed by M.S. in General Surgery from SKIMS, Srinagar, and M.Ch. in Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery from PGIMER, Chandigarh, in 1997. He further enhanced his expertise through advanced fellowships in Adult and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre, New Delhi, Max Hospital, Saket and Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram. He is a Fellow of the Indian Association of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons (FIACS) and actively contributes to postgraduate medical education. He serves as a DNB Guide and External Examiner for M.Ch./DrNB in Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, mentoring and training the next generation of cardiac surgeons. At NHI he is the one who started Endo Vascular repair for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms. He conducted six hands on workshops on bovine hearts for DNB students. He also started antiarrythmic surgery for Atrial Fibrillation in Rheumatic Heart Disease with conncomiant Mitral Valve Surgery. He also started routine Carotid Endartrectomy.
