Department of Diagnostics
Department of pathology is an NABL accredited lab that runs 24 X 7 X 365. All routine and special tests are done in the Department. Specialised Tests where equipments or kits are not available with the department are outsourced to another NABL accredited laboratory. Hematology section deals with complete blood counts, ESR and routine coagulation studies e.g. PT-INR/ APTT. Turnaround time and quality checks are observed strictly.
Biochemistry section is equipped with fully automated analyser and handles all the routine tests including ABG analysis. Urgent and round the clock reporting of all vital parameters is available. Clinical pathology is dealt in-house and as per standard guidelines. Serology section handles most of the important infectious markers including HIV, HbSAg, Dengue, HCV and typhoid. Microbiology section performs all routine aerobic, anearobic, fungal and mycobaterial cultures. Drug and antibiotic sensitivity is automated process and provides a better turn around time. As per NABL guidelines, all the protocols for External and internal proficiency test are followed for all the reportable analytes. Quality assuarance guidelines are strictly adhered to. Instrument maintenance, including calibration are followed on schedule. Safety policy of the lab is clearly defined for the staff and they are routinely trained for this. Orientation training and ongoing training of staff is done from time to time, which includes CME and presentations. The laboratory has clearely delineated quality objectives and regulary monitors the same. There is also a defined policy for ethical conduct in the department. The lab has qualified and experienced doctors and laboratory personnel are available round the clock.

- Clinical Pathology
The noninvasive imaging laboratory is a service organized around the evaluation of the heart and vascular systems using non-invasive techniques. Services provided include evaluations of coronary artery disease, ventricular morphology and function, valvular morphology and function, congenital heart diseases, myocardial diseases, and pericardial diseases.
The adult echocardiography lab at National Heart Institute has been at the forefront of cardiac ultrasound for over 20 years, and currently performs more than 10,000 procedures annually.
The Department of Radiology is equipped with state of the art, latest medical imaging equipment managed by a team of senior radiology consultants. As a backup, the senior consultants are ably supported by the team of junior consultants and clinical associates providing round the clock support in emergencies. The Department is situated on the ground floor of A - wing of the hospital and is manned by a team of experienced radiology technicians, nursing staff and front desk assistants.
National Heart Institute has several high end patient-friendly Medical Imaging equipments such as:
- Multi Slice GE CT scanner
- Ultrasound- Several high End Ultrasound machines from GE, which are modern and latest in the field of imaging
- High Frequency Digital Radiography and Fluoroscopy machine from Siemens
- Several portable digital radiography machines for bed side services to the patients
- Latest Agfa CR System
- Digital Radiography including conventional Radiology and Radiology procedures
- Special investigation : IVP (Intra Venous Pyelography), MCU (Micturating Cysto Urethrography) / RGU (Retrograde Urethrography), Sinogram / Fistulogram
- Routine Sonography and Colour Doppler including interventional procedures
- Whole body CT scan including Interventional procedures
